Powell Homes and Shelters Limited has unveiled the first batch of 300 housing units at Hosanna Estate, Ibagwa Nike, Enugu State.
The housing project is located in Enugu East Local Government Area. It aims to expand access to decent housing while supporting the state’s growing urban development.
The company unveiled the project on Wednesday during a commissioning ceremony attended by government officials, traditional rulers, investors and other stakeholders.
Speaking at the event, Managing Director of Powell Homes and Shelters Limited, Architect Chibikem Onyekachi, said the company designed the estate as more than a collection of houses.
He said Powell Homes wanted to create a functional and sustainable community where families could live, work and prosper.
The estate includes internal roads, drainage systems and electricity infrastructure. It also features a synthetic football pitch and a children’s playground.
Onyekachi added that the company plans to establish a 24-hour shopping centre within the estate. The facility will also include a pharmacy to improve convenience for residents.
Powell Homes Targets Affordable Home Ownership

Onyekachi said Powell Homes recognised the financial challenges facing many Nigerian families.
He said the company would continue developing housing solutions that make home ownership more accessible. According to him, owning a home should not remain an unrealistic goal for average Nigerian families.
The Powell Homes boss said the company would explore innovative financing models and strategic partnerships. These partnerships could involve government agencies, financial institutions and pension administrators.
He specifically highlighted pension-backed mortgage financing as one option that could help more Nigerians bridge the gap between income and home ownership.
Onyekachi said the commissioning of Hosanna Estate would not end the company’s development plans. Instead, he said it would strengthen Powell Homes’ commitment to building more communities in Enugu and other parts of Nigeria.
He also assured subscribers and clients of the company’s commitment to quality, safety, accountability and sustainability.

Mbah Says Housing Investment Can Attract Businesses and Skilled Workers

Representing Governor Peter Mbah at the event, Deputy Governor Ifeanyi Ossai said private housing investment supports Enugu’s economic transformation plans.
Ossai said the state wants to move beyond its traditional dependence on the civil service. He said functional housing would help attract businesses, investors and skilled workers to Enugu.
According to him, companies and skilled professionals may hesitate to relocate when suitable housing remains unavailable.
The Deputy Governor said the state government wants Enugu to become economically viable and competitive with major cities across Africa. He also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to protecting investments and securing residents and businesses.
Housing development forms part of the wider infrastructure expansion taking place across Enugu. The state government has also highlighted major road projects as part of its development agenda.

He urged people with unresolved grievances to use existing government channels to seek redress.
Ossai also appealed to residents and stakeholders to support the state’s development plans. He said the government was implementing its infrastructure programme in phases.
According to him, the expansion of road networks and development of the new Enugu City form part of a broader plan. The objective is to expand economic opportunities and support urban growth.

Deputy Governor Urges Residents to Maintain Estate Facilities

Ossai also urged prospective residents of Hosanna Estate to comply with their agreements with the developer.
He particularly stressed the importance of maintaining shared facilities within the estate. Modern residential developments, he said, require cooperation from residents to remain functional.
He urged residents to support the estate’s management structure. He also warned against actions that could damage roads, drainage systems, recreational facilities and other shared infrastructure.
The Deputy Governor expressed optimism that Hosanna Estate could become a model for future private housing investments in Enugu.
He said successful housing projects could encourage more developers to invest in the state. Such investments could also support employment, business activity and urban development.
