Residents and political stakeholders in Nkanu East have pledged support for the APC ahead of the September 26 local government election and the 2027 general elections. Communities in Ohuani Onicha Agu, Amechi Idodo, Oruku and Umuode made the commitment during the APC campaign tour led by chairmanship candidate Mike Ogbuekwe.
Ogbuekwe, also known as Mmiri Ọma Na Nkanu, visited the communities with his campaign team. The campaign gave residents an opportunity to discuss local issues with the candidate. Community leaders, women, youths and other stakeholders also attended the engagements.
Stakeholders Praise Peter Mbah’s Development Projects
Several stakeholders praised Governor Peter Mbah’s administration during the campaign. They pointed to infrastructure projects and other government programmes across Enugu State. According to the stakeholders, Idodo Zone has seen increased government presence under Mbah.
They cited developments in roads, education and healthcare. The stakeholders also mentioned appointments to strategic government positions. They said these developments strengthened their support for the administration’s development agenda.

APC Leaders Promise Strong Support
Political leaders from Amechi Idodo and Oruku Ward also backed the APC. Those leaders included Emmanuel Ekene Nnamani, Prof. Hyginus Banko Okibe and Hon. Ejike Ani. Dr. Chris Mbah and Hon. Cletus Ajaegbu also joined the list of supporters.
The leaders promised to mobilise residents ahead of the coming elections. They said the communities had benefited from infrastructure and political appointments. The leaders also highlighted human capital development across the area.
Their comments formed a major part of the campaign discussions in the communities.
Okey Mbah Appeals to Women and Youths
Member representing Nkanu East State Constituency, Okey Mbah, addressed women and youths. He urged them to support APC candidates during the upcoming elections.
Mbah argued that political alignment with the federal government could create more opportunities. He linked such opportunities to federal appointments and employment. The lawmaker also mentioned critical development projects as potential benefits.
Mbah discussed the political shift from the PDP to the APC. He described the differences behind the move as irreconcilable. The discussion comes as political activities continue to increase ahead of the elections.

Campaign Director Lists Projects
Campaign Director-General Emeka Nwatu also addressed supporters during the tour. He said the communities had several reasons to support Ogbuekwe and the APC.
Nwatu pointed to government projects across Amechi Idodo and Oruku. He mentioned roads, smart schools and Type-2 healthcare facilities. The campaign director also highlighted recent government appointments.
Those appointments include positions at ESIRS and ENSUBEB. He also mentioned appointments to the Enugu State Civil Service Commission and the Enugu State College of Education (Technical).
Nwatu praised the turnout at the various rallies. He described Amechi Idodo/Oruku Ward as one of the strongest wards. Nwatu said the turnout showed residents understood the importance of government support.
Ogbuekwe Promises More Development
Mike Ogbuekwe thanked residents for their support during the campaign. He promised to build on Governor Peter Mbah’s development agenda.
Ogbuekwe identified infrastructure as one of his major priorities. Agriculture and human capital development also feature in his plans. He further identified security as another key area of focus.
The APC candidate promised an administration based on accountability and inclusion. He also pledged to promote people-centred governance across Nkanu East. Ogbuekwe said he wants development benefits to reach communities throughout the local government.

APC Presents Flags to Ward Candidates
The campaign also featured the presentation of APC flags to councilorship candidates. The candidates represent Ohuani Onicha Agu and Amechi Idodo/Oruku wards.
Several APC leaders attended the campaign activities. They included APC Enugu East Zonal Chairman Nnamdi Nwafor and Nkanu East APC Chairman Able Nwigwe.
Vice Chairman of Nkanu East Local Government, Paul Okwor, also joined the campaign. Okwor also serves as Ogbuekwe’s running mate. Other attendees included former Nkanu East chairman Ikechukwu Ubagu and Deputy Director-General Prince Arinze Arum.
Kingsley Ezinwa, Director-General of the Ije Awele Movement, also attended. APC Women Leader in Nkanu East, Chinwe Mbah, joined other party supporters.
Former vice chairmen Martin Agbo, Ngozi Ogbonna and Nwatu also attended. Nkanu East APC Youth Leader Theophilus Ebiem completed the list of notable attendees.
APC Campaign Continues Across Nkanu East
The campaign train later moved through the communities as supporters continued to express backing for Ogbuekwe and the APC. The candidate will now focus on further engagements across Nkanu East.
The party hopes to build on the support ahead of the September 26 local government election. Political stakeholders also continue to prepare for the 2027 general elections.
