NYSC Applauds Mbah’s Support as CSDA Moves to Tackle Water Shortage at Awgu Camp

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has commended Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah for his continued support for corps members. Meanwhile, the Enugu State Community and Social Development Agency (CSDA) is exploring solutions to water supply challenges at the NYSC Orientation Camp in Awgu.

The Head of the NYSC Enugu State Chapter, Mrs Oluwakemi Awolola, gave the commendation during a working visit to the CSDA on Monday. She said the engagement aimed to identify practical and affordable ways to improve water supply at the permanent orientation camp.

Awolola explained that the visit allowed both teams to discuss problems affecting water distribution across the camp. She stressed the need to improve existing boreholes, strengthen solar power systems and extend water supply to essential facilities.

Awolola said the camp needed reliable water infrastructure to support its daily operations. She noted that better boreholes and solar installations could help address the current challenges.

She also highlighted the need to extend water supply to important centres within the facility. The proposed improvements would help corps members access water more reliably during their orientation programme.

The NYSC official praised Governor Mbah for his support for the camp. She also conveyed the appreciation of the NYSC Director-General for the governor’s continued assistance.

“The NYSC Director-General appreciates His Excellency Dr Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, the Executive Governor of Enugu State, for his constant and huge support to the NYSC Camp, Awgu, reputed to be the first NYSC Camp in Nigeria,” Awolola said.

She also commended the CSDA General Manager for his proactive approach and administrative leadership. The visit provided an opportunity for both institutions to discuss possible interventions.

Responding, the CSDA General Manager, Chief Monday Diamond Ani, assured NYSC officials of the agency’s readiness to collaborate with the camp’s management. He said the agency would examine the facilities and identify suitable measures to improve water supply.

Ani said the assessment would cover existing boreholes, pumps, storage tanks and solar installations. The findings would guide decisions on the most effective and cost-conscious interventions.

The proposed work aims to improve water distribution to strategic locations within the camp. It could also reduce reliance on generators amid electricity challenges and high operating costs.

Both parties agreed that effective planning, technical expertise and coordination would be essential. They stressed the importance of using available resources efficiently to achieve lasting results.
