The Federal Character Commission Commissioner representing Enugu State, Hon. Peter Ogbonna Eze, has urged young Nigerians to pursue Federal Government jobs through official recruitment channels.
Eze said qualified applicants do not need godfathers, political connections or middlemen to secure legitimate federal employment.
The commissioner made the statement during the maiden edition of the Peter Eze Youth Connect in Enugu.
The event focused on helping young people understand how to access government opportunities and overcome misinformation about federal recruitment.
The programme had the theme, “Beyond Quotas: Unlocking Opportunities for Enugu Youths Through the Federal Character Commission.”
Eze said the initiative aims to close the information gap between government opportunities and young Nigerians.
He particularly highlighted unemployed youths who may have stopped applying for federal jobs because of false claims about how recruitment works.

FCC Says Youths Can Get Federal Jobs Without Godfathers
Eze said many qualified job seekers have remained on the sidelines because they believe federal positions go only to people with political connections.
According to him, that belief has prevented some young Nigerians from pursuing opportunities that are openly available.
He encouraged youths to reject the idea that they need a powerful sponsor before applying for government employment.
“You can barely get an opportunity you do not apply for,” Eze said.
The FCC commissioner urged young people to focus on preparation and follow the proper recruitment process.
He also advised applicants to obtain the required qualifications before applying for available positions.
“Get the information. Follow the process. Prepare yourself. Apply. Compete. And pursue your opportunity,” he said.
Eze’s message comes as unemployment and access to economic opportunities remain major concerns among young Nigerians.

Federal Character Commission Explains Its Role
The commissioner also explained the role of the Federal Character Commission in federal employment.
He said the commission has a constitutional and statutory responsibility to promote equitable representation within Federal Government institutions.
The FCC also monitors compliance with federal character principles across government establishments.
Eze said more than 700 ministries, departments, agencies, commissions and other Federal Government establishments offer employment and related opportunities.
He explained that young Nigerians can explore these opportunities through legitimate recruitment channels.
The commissioner added that the commission is working to improve public awareness about available opportunities and the procedures applicants must follow.
This, he said, would help reduce confusion and make government opportunities more accessible to qualified Nigerians.

Eze Warns Against Federal Job Scams
The FCC commissioner also warned young people about fraudsters who demand money for supposed Federal Government jobs.
He said job seekers should remain cautious whenever individuals promise appointments in exchange for payment.
According to Eze, legitimate federal employment should not require applicants to buy their way into public service.
“You do not need to buy a job; you need to prepare yourself,” he said.
He advised anyone who encounters individuals demanding money for legitimate government employment to report the matter through the appropriate channels.
Eze also said the commission is improving its digital platforms to provide reliable information about available opportunities.
The effort includes strengthening access to information through the commission’s website and other digital channels.

Peter Eze Youth Connect Expands Beyond FG Jobs
The Peter Eze Youth Connect is not focused only on Federal Government jobs.
Eze said the initiative will also expose young people to grants, scholarships, fellowships and training programmes.
Participants will also learn about domestic and international opportunities that can support education, entrepreneurship and personal development.
He disclosed that five participants would be selected for full scholarship opportunities to study abroad.
Eze said the initiative reflects his belief that leadership should create access for people.
He explained that useful information should reach young people who can benefit from it.
“If I know that something can change the life of a young person from Enugu State, I believe that the young person should hear about it,” he said.
He also emphasised the importance of connecting people with credible opportunities.
“If I can open a door, I should open it. If I can connect someone to the right person, I should make the connection. If I can provide information, I should provide it,” he added.

FCC Commissioner Urges Youths to Ignore Misinformation
Eze said he has spent seven months serving as the FCC commissioner representing Enugu State.
During that period, he said he observed that misinformation continues to prevent some youths from pursuing opportunities.
He expressed concern that some young people assume federal recruitment is already decided before vacancies become public.
According to him, such assumptions can discourage qualified candidates from applying.
He said the current leadership of the Federal Character Commission has increased public enlightenment efforts.

While encouraging young people to apply, Eze acknowledged that Federal Government employment has limits.
He explained that government agencies cannot employ every applicant because vacancies differ across ministries, departments and agencies.
However, he stressed that young Nigerians should not lose legitimate opportunities because of ignorance.
He said qualified applicants should compete whenever suitable vacancies become available.
The commissioner also encouraged youths to develop skills that can help them access opportunities beyond public service.

He said young people should also explore grants, scholarships, fellowships and entrepreneurship programmes.
