INEC Uploads Preliminary Voter Register Online, Sets December 15 Deadline for Final List

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has uploaded the preliminary register of voters for the 2027 general elections to its online platform following concerns over public access to the document.

The commission said the move would complement the physical display of the register conducted nationwide from October 9 to 15, 2026. It will also allow more registered voters to check their details and identify possible errors.

INEC’s Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Mohammed Kudu Haruna, announced that the register is available at https://display.inecnigeria.org.

The development comes as preparations for the 2027 elections continue. The commission has also begun recruiting temporary personnel to support the polls, as outlined in its 2027 ad hoc staff recruitment guide.

INEC Responds to Calls for Online Access

INEC said it had taken note of concerns raised by Nigerians and other stakeholders about the accessibility of the preliminary voters’ register.

The commission explained that online publication would supplement the physical display already conducted at registration areas across the country. The additional option is intended to make it easier for registered voters to inspect their information.

The physical display took place in accordance with Section 19 of the Electoral Act, 2026. The exercise allowed voters to examine their particulars and submit claims or objections as permitted by law.

The commission’s decision adds to wider discussions about electoral transparency and public confidence ahead of the next general election. The Obidient Movement has questioned INEC’s proposed use of artificial intelligence in the 2027 elections, calling for greater clarity about the commission’s technology and safeguards.

Final Voters’ Register to Be Published on December 15

INEC said it was still processing claims and objections submitted during the physical display exercise.

The commission will consider the submissions before certifying and publishing the final register of voters on December 15, 2026.

The deadline gives the commission time to review issues raised by voters before finalising the register for the elections. Registered voters should therefore check their details and follow the commission’s instructions for reporting any discrepancies.

The final register will form part of the preparations for the 2027 polls. INEC has also continued to make administrative arrangements for the election, including proposed leadership changes detailed in the report on Tinubu’s nominations for INEC national and resident electoral commissioner positions.

Commission Reaffirms Commitment to Transparency

INEC said the online publication reflected its commitment to transparency, accessibility and public confidence in the electoral process.

It urged Nigerians and other stakeholders to continue participating in the process. The commission also reiterated its commitment to implementing the Electoral Act, 2026, and conducting credible elections.

Public access to the voters’ register is an important part of electoral preparation because it allows registered voters to identify possible errors before the final list is certified.

The commission’s preparations also involve public education and engagement with political stakeholders. Ahead of the September 2026 local government elections in Enugu, the state electoral commission urged residents to vote, protect their ballots and shun violence.

Electoral Preparations Intensify Ahead of 2027

Political parties and electoral bodies have continued to organise ahead of the next general elections.

In Enugu State, the electoral commission previously said it was more than 90 per cent ready for the September local government polls. Its preparations included logistics, personnel training and security arrangements, as reported in the update on ENSIEC’s readiness for the September 26 elections.

Political parties have also taken steps to promote peaceful participation. Seven parties signed an agreement ahead of the Enugu local government elections, pledging to respect electoral rules and avoid violence, according to the report on the peace accord signed before the September 26 polls.

Other groups have begun grassroots activities ahead of 2027. The NDC has started mobilisation across the South-East, taking its message to communities, markets and campuses.

The party has also announced a wider campaign structure. Its 2027 campaign council includes Peter Obi, Henry Dickson, Rabiu Kwankwaso and other members.

Meanwhile, the APC has continued its political mobilisation in Enugu. The party recently won all contested chairmanship and councillorship seats in the state’s local government elections, according to the official results report.

The commission’s voter register update comes as these political and administrative preparations continue across the country.

How Nigerians Can Check the Preliminary Register

Registered voters can access the preliminary register through INEC’s online platform at https://display.inecnigeria.org.

They should check their particulars carefully and follow the commission’s instructions if they identify an error or have grounds for an objection.

INEC said it would continue processing submissions from the display exercise before publishing the final register on December 15, 2026.

The commission urged Nigerians to remain engaged with the process as it works towards the 2027 general elections. Its online publication is intended to expand access to the preliminary register and support public scrutiny before certification.
