The Enugu State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has unveiled its campaign council ahead of the 2027 general elections, with Governor Peter Mbah as chairman.
The council comprises 51 directorates and features political leaders, former governors, lawmakers, government officials and party stakeholders. The party said the structure would promote broad participation across communities and interest groups.
Deputy Governor Ifeanyi Ossai, APC Deputy National Chairman (South), Speaker of the Enugu State House of Assembly Uchenna Ugwu, and state party chairman Martin Chukwunweike will serve as vice chairmen.
The announcement comes as political activities intensify ahead of the next general elections. Enugu has also witnessed grassroots mobilisation, including when Nara residents rallied behind Ogbuekwe during an APC campaign tour.
Charlie Mbah Heads Campaign Organisation

The list, signed by Chukwunweike and the party’s state secretary, Chukwudi Nnadozie, names Chief Charlie Mbah as Director-General of the Campaign Organisation.
Dr. Eric Oluedo will serve as Secretary-General, while Deacon Okey Ogbodo, Dr. Dan Shere and S.K.E. Udeh-Okoye will serve as deputy campaign directors-general.
Their respective responsibilities cover Enugu East, Enugu North and Enugu West senatorial districts.
The appointments establish the campaign’s central leadership and provide coordination across the three senatorial zones.
The party has previously organised similar grassroots activities across the state. In Nkanu East, Ohuani Idodo and Oruku stakeholders declared support for the APC.
Other communities have also expressed support for the party’s activities. These include Ihuokpara, Isienu and Akpawfu wards and Ugbakwa wards, which declared support for Mbah and Ogbuekwe.
Oruruo Leads Public Communication
Barrister Steve Oruruo has been appointed campaign spokesperson and Director of the Public Communication Committee.
Dr. Austin Okolie will serve as co-spokesperson, while Dr. Malachy Agbo will act as secretary of the committee.
The council also assigned media responsibilities to members of Governor Mbah’s media team.
Mazi Uche Anichukwu will lead the Directorate of New Media and Strategic Communication, with Dr. Collins Ogbu as secretary.
Dan Nwomeh will head the Directorate of Mainstream Media, while Dr. Reuben Onyishi will serve as its secretary.
The appointments place digital communication and traditional media within separate directorates under the campaign structure.
The communication arrangements come amid wider political preparations across Enugu. The state’s recent electoral activities included seven political parties signing a peace accord ahead of the September 26 local government elections.
Security agencies also gave assurances ahead of the local government poll. Their preparations featured in a report on measures to ensure a peaceful and hitch-free election in Enugu.
Udeh, Nwoye and Nwatu Get Key Directorate Roles
Barrister Victor Udeh will head the Administration Directorate.
Dr. Ben Nwoye and Arc. Uche Nwatu will serve as director and co-director of the Fundraising Committee, respectively.
Former Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Ikechukwu Ogalla (retd.), will chair the Security Directorate. Former Inspector-General of Police Ogbono Onovo (retd.) will serve as its secretary.
The council also assigned the Directorate of Government Appointees Coordination, covering federal and state appointees, to the Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology. Professor Chidiebere Onyia will serve as secretary.
Former Speaker of the Enugu State House of Assembly, Eugene Odoh, will head the Inter-Party Affairs Directorate.
These appointments cover administration, fundraising, security, government coordination and engagement with other political parties.
The council’s formation follows the APC’s strong showing in the September 2026 local government elections. The party claimed all chairmanship and councillorship seats in Enugu’s local government election.
Senators to Coordinate Campaigns Across Three Zones
The party also appointed three senators as coordinators for the campaign council across Enugu’s senatorial districts.
Senator Osita Ngwu will coordinate the campaign in Enugu West. Senator Ikeje Asogwa will oversee Enugu North, while Senator Kelvin Chukwu will coordinate Enugu East.
The appointments place elected representatives at the centre of campaign coordination across the state’s three senatorial zones.
Their roles are expected to connect the central campaign leadership with political structures and stakeholders in the respective districts.
The council’s formation also comes as the Mbah administration continues to promote its development record. The governor has highlighted projects and programmes under his administration, including the reported 10,000 achievements unveiled by Mbah.
The state government has also pursued investment opportunities. The NACCIMA has praised Enugu’s security efforts and backed its $30 billion economic ambition.
Advisory Roles for Former Governors and Other Leaders
The campaign announcement also names several prominent political figures for advisory roles.
Those listed include former Senate President Ken Nnamani, former Enugu State Governor Jim Nwobodo, former governor Sullivan Chime and former governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi.
Others include Professor Barth Nnaji, Prince Arthur Eze, former minister Frank Nweke Jr. and former minister Ojo Madueke.
The advisory group also includes other political stakeholders, although the supplied announcement does not provide the full details of every appointment.
Their inclusion broadens the campaign structure beyond serving officials and current party executives.
The APC has continued to present governance and development as central themes in its activities across Enugu. Governor Mbah has also publicly backed President Bola Tinubu’s economic policies, including his position that Nigeria cannot return to the old order following fuel subsidy removal.
Party Says Council Will Promote Broad Participation
In their joint statement, Chukwunweike and Nnadozie said the council’s size reflected the party’s commitment to involving different groups.
They listed communities, wards, local government areas, professional groups, support organisations, youth bodies, women’s groups, elders, party members and other supporters among those expected to participate.
“Appointment into the campaign structure is therefore not merely an honour; it is a call to duty, accountability and measurable contribution,” the statement said.
The party leaders said the structure was designed to ensure that different groups received opportunities to contribute to the campaign.
The political environment in Enugu has also featured disagreements between parties and groups. In one recent dispute, the state government responded to the NDC over incidents involving its airport secretariat.
Beyond party politics, the Mbah administration has continued to promote employment, education and economic development. The state has also featured in a report on how FG jobs can be accessible without connections, according to an FCC commissioner addressing Enugu youths.
Education remains another major part of the government’s agenda. Mbah has called for a national emergency in education while unveiling Enugu’s education policy.
Enugu APC Sets October 27 for Inauguration
The APC said it would inaugurate the campaign council on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, at the International Conference Centre in Enugu.
All members of the council are expected to be seated before 3 p.m.
The inauguration will formally bring the 51 directorates and their appointed leaders together as the party prepares for the 2027 general elections.
The party’s announcement outlines the council’s principal leadership, media structure, security team, senatorial coordinators and advisory appointments.
However, the full list of all 51 directorates and their members was not included in the supplied statement. The names and roles detailed in this report therefore cover only the appointments provided in the announcement.
