The Chairman of Udenu Local Government Area, Hon. Innocent Ezeoha, Ph.D., has celebrated teachers across the council as they join others worldwide to mark International Teachers’ Day.
Ezeoha praised teachers for their dedication and sacrifices in educating children and contributing to society. He described them as a key part of every progressive society and urged continued support for the teaching profession.
In his goodwill message, the chairman congratulated the Nigerian Union of Teachers and educators across Udenu LGA. He said their commitment to raising and educating young people remains important to the future of Udenu, Enugu State and Nigeria.
The celebration comes as education remains a major focus of development discussions in Enugu State. The state’s education reform programme includes 260 Smart Green Schools across its 260 political wards.

Ezeoha Calls for Transformation of Teaching Profession

Ezeoha said the theme of this year’s celebration, “Transforming the Teacher Profession for Africa’s Future,” reflects the changing demands facing education.
He said teachers must adapt to new methods and technologies as education and workplaces continue to evolve. According to him, innovation, professional mobility, digital technology and Artificial Intelligence should form part of the transformation.
The chairman said these developments require teachers to continue improving their skills. He added that educators must remain prepared to help students navigate an increasingly technology-driven world.
The importance of digital skills is also reflected in Enugu’s Smart Green Schools programme. The state says the schools include ICT facilities, internet connectivity and learning spaces designed around experiential education.

Udenu Chairman Commends Mbah’s Smart Green Schools
Ezeoha also commended Governor Peter Mbah for the state’s 260 Smart Green Schools initiative.
He said the programme represents an important step towards improving teaching and learning environments across Enugu State. The chairman added that modern school facilities can help prepare students for changing educational and workplace demands.
The Enugu State Government’s education plan provides for one Smart Green School in each of the state’s 260 political wards. The schools are designed to combine basic education with technology, practical learning and other facilities.
The chairman, however, stressed that infrastructure alone cannot transform education. He said teachers remain central to the learning process and must receive the recognition and support required to perform effectively.

Teachers Remain Central to Education, Ezeoha Says
Ezeoha described teachers in Udenu LGA as dedicated and knowledgeable professionals.
He acknowledged the demands of teaching and praised educators who continue to carry out their responsibilities despite the challenges associated with the profession. According to him, their work goes beyond classroom lessons.
The chairman said teachers also help shape the character, values and ambitions of children. He noted that the students they teach today will eventually become leaders and contributors to their communities.
“Teachers have always been the pride and backbone of every progressive nation,” Ezeoha said. He also recognised the sacrifices teachers make both within and outside the classroom.
The wider Enugu education programme has similarly placed emphasis on teacher development alongside infrastructure. A University at Buffalo report said teachers were being trained as part of the state’s Smart Green Schools reform programme.

Ezeoha Says Teachers Inspire Future Generations
The Udenu chairman further highlighted the wider influence of teachers on society.
He said educators do more than transfer academic knowledge to students. According to him, teachers inspire dreams, develop character and help create the foundation for a prosperous society.
Ezeoha quoted an ancient Chinese proverb to emphasise the influence of good teachers. He said a great teacher does not only provide knowledge but also inspires learners to build a better future.
The chairman urged teachers in Udenu to remain committed to their profession. He encouraged them to continue supporting children and helping young people develop the values and skills needed for the future.
The technology focus of Enugu’s Smart Green Schools is also intended to expose learners to areas such as robotics, mechatronics, virtual reality and artificial intelligence.
