MEDL disclosed the planned outage in a public notice dated Monday, October 26, 2026. The notice was signed by the company’s Head of Communications, Emeka Ezeh.

According to the notice, the maintenance will take place daily between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Customers served by the UNN, SUMAS and Orba 33kV feeders should expect interruptions during those hours.

The company said TCN’s technical team would work on essential equipment at the Nsukka station. It added that the exercise aims to improve the reliability and quality of electricity supply.

The planned maintenance comes as MEDL continues efforts to improve customer service and infrastructure. The company recently tasked staff on quicker responses and customer follow-up during Customer Service Week.

List of Communities Affected by the Outage

The planned interruption will affect several communities across Nsukka and nearby areas.

They include Ukopi, Opi Agu, Eha-Alumona, Orba Town, Obollo-Afor, parts of Obollo-Eke, Enugu Ezike, Ibagwa, Nkalagu Obukpa, Okpaligbo, Iheaka, Edem Ani, Agbani and Uzo-Uwani.

Other affected communities include Obimo, Nkpologu, Lejja, Nguru, Aku and Ogbede, alongside surrounding areas.

The company also listed Odim Gate, Nkpor, the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), Nru and Ede Oballa among the affected locations.

Residents of El Tabera Estate, Ikenga Estate, Wilson Company, Umakashi, Isiakpu, G.R.A. and Ogige Main Market should also prepare for the scheduled interruptions.

Meanwhile, residents should take precautions around electricity infrastructure, particularly during severe weather. The South-East Electricity Consumers Association has warned residents against electrocution during flooding and windstorms.

MEDL Appeals for Customers’ Understanding

Ezeh said the maintenance work was necessary to enable TCN technicians to service equipment at the station.

“MEDL sincerely regrets any inconvenience this planned outage may cause its esteemed customers and appeals for their patience and understanding,” he stated.

He added that the exercise would help improve the reliability and quality of electricity supply to customers.

The company urged residents and businesses in the affected areas to take note of the schedule. It also advised them to make necessary arrangements for the daily interruption period.

The maintenance announcement comes amid wider discussions about energy infrastructure and investment in Enugu State. The state government has been pursuing opportunities in the sector through its proposed Enugu-Germany Investment Corridor.

Electricity Supply and Development in Enugu

Reliable electricity remains important for households, businesses, markets and public institutions across Nsukka and other parts of Enugu State.

The planned outage will require affected residents and businesses to adjust their activities during the daily maintenance window. Businesses that depend on electricity may need alternative arrangements between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.

The state’s wider development agenda also includes efforts to attract investment and strengthen economic activity. The NACCIMA has backed Enugu’s $30 billion economic ambition, highlighting opportunities for business and investment.

Other government initiatives have focused on community development, including the CSDA’s sensitisation and participatory appraisal exercise in six Enugu communities. The Deputy Speaker has also praised CSDA’s people-oriented development work.

The state has continued to highlight infrastructure and investment as part of its development plans. These efforts include initiatives discussed in reports on Enugu Government’s efforts to sustain development gains and NACCIMA’s proposed investment and business opportunities in the state.

The CSDA and Rep. Atu have also toured Enugu South communities for rural development projects.

MEDL has not indicated any change to the announced schedule. Customers in the affected communities should therefore prepare for power interruptions from November 5 to November 10, 2026, during the stated daily hours.
