Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has predicted that President Bola Tinubu will win the 2027 presidential election on the first ballot. He ruled out the likelihood of a run-off during his monthly media chat in Abuja on Tuesday.
Wike made the declaration while discussing Tinubu’s re-election prospects. He expressed confidence that Nigerians would return the president for another term.
“I have not seen any likelihood of a run-off,” Wike said.
When asked about Tinubu’s legacy if he lost the re-election bid, the minister rejected the possibility. He insisted that the president would secure another term.
“It will be wrong for me to even answer that kind of question. He will be returned. Nigerians will return him,” Wike said.
His comments come as political activities and discussions surrounding the 2027 general elections continue to gather momentum. Other political developments include Wike’s Response to Uzodimma Over Rainbow Coalition Support for Tinubu.
Wike Denies Working Against APC Governors
The FCT minister also denied allegations that he was working against three governors of the All Progressives Congress (APC). The governors are Hope Uzodimma of Imo State, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara State and Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State.
Wike described accusations that he sponsored candidates against the governors as unfair. He maintained that his political party had the right to field candidates in elections.
“It is very much unfair,” he said.
“I am not in their party. So you can’t tell me my party cannot have candidates,” Wike added.
The minister argued that his support for Tinubu did not prevent him from backing candidates at other levels of government. He said his political decisions concerning the presidential election should not be interpreted as an agreement to avoid contesting against APC candidates.
“The mere fact I supported President Tinubu, which I did in 2023, and I am still doing does not mean we cannot field candidates at other levels,” he said.

FCT Minister Says He Made No Deal With Governors
Wike also denied entering into any political arrangement with the three governors. He said he had not promised them that his party would refrain from fielding candidates against their parties.
“Did I enter into any arrangement with any of them?” he asked. “I did not promise any governor.”
He cited Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma as an example of his political goodwill. Wike challenged the governor to publicly acknowledge the role he claimed to have played during Uzodimma’s re-election campaign.
“Ask Governor Hope. If he is a sincere person, he will tell you the role I played in his reelection,” Wike said.
The minister’s comments highlight continuing discussions about political alliances and party interests ahead of 2027. Another related report is Tinubu Moves to Define Wike’s Role as FCT, Rivers Campaign Coordinator.
Wike Comments on Political Rivalries in Kwara
The FCT minister also addressed the political situation in Kwara State involving Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq and former Senate President Bukola Saraki.
Wike suggested that politicians often hope their opponents make mistakes. He denied having a hand in the situation between the two political figures.
“Every person prays for his opponent to make a mistake. So, I have no hand,” he said.
His remarks came amid wider political manoeuvring as parties and their leaders prepare for the 2027 elections. Meanwhile, SERAP Demands Answers From INEC Over ₦126bn Missing Electoral Funds covers another major issue involving Nigeria’s electoral system.
Political Activities Build Ahead of 2027 Elections
Wike’s prediction adds to the growing public discussion about Tinubu’s re-election prospects. However, the minister’s statement represents his personal assessment rather than an established election outcome.
Political parties are expected to continue building alliances, selecting candidates and mobilising supporters before the polls. The positions taken by political leaders may also shape discussions around party loyalty and electoral strategy.
