The Youth Wing of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), South-East Zone, has commenced a grassroots mobilisation campaign across the region’s five states ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The group said the campaign would take the party’s message to markets. To campuses, communities and wards in Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu and Imo states. It launched the initiative in Enugu during the NDC 2026 Zonal Market and Campus Tour.
The mobilisation comes amid political activities and realignments ahead of the next general elections. Other developments have included reports on the NDC’s planned presidential campaign council and political mobilisation efforts in Enugu.
NDC Targets Markets, Campuses and Communities
A communiqué signed by the South-East Zonal Youth Leader, Mazi Igwe Ogbonnaya, and Enugu Youth Leader, Engr. Jideofor Richard, said the initiative was designed to expand the party’s structures and engage young people across the region.
Ogbonnaya said the campaign would take the NDC’s message directly to grassroots communities while encouraging young people to participate in the political process.
“We are taking the NDC message directly to the people. From Abia to Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu and Imo, we will engage our youths in markets, campuses and communities,” he said.
The group said the Enugu flag-off marked the beginning of sustained mobilisation across the five states. It described the tour as an opportunity to engage residents, listen to their concerns and present the party’s message.
The campaign’s emphasis on youth participation comes as other political groups also organise outreach activities. These include market and community mobilisation by APC supporters in Nkanu East and grassroots engagement in Nara.
Youth Wing Declares Support for Recognised Candidates
The NDC youth wing also declared support for candidates it described as recognised party flagbearers for the 2027 elections.
Those named in the communiqué included presidential candidate Peter Obi, governorship candidate Sir Chinyeaka Ohaa, and candidates contesting National and State Assembly seats.
The group called on affiliate youth organisations, including Kwankwasiya youths and the Obidient Movement, to work with the party to promote peaceful political participation.

NDC Raises Concern Over Alleged Intimidation
The youth wing expressed concern over alleged attacks and intimidation of political supporters in parts of Enugu State.
It called on security agencies to investigate the reported incidents. The group also appealed to the Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services, Enugu State Government and other stakeholders to help ensure a peaceful and level playing field for political parties ahead of the 2027 elections.
The appeal comes as security and election preparations remain part of political discussions in Enugu. Recent reports have covered security agencies’ preparations for the September 26 local government elections and the NSCDC’s deployment of personnel for the polls.
Campaign to Continue Across the Five South-East States
According to the group, the mobilisation drive will extend beyond Enugu to communities, wards, markets and campuses throughout Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi and Imo.
The youth wing said it intends to sustain direct engagement with residents as the 2027 elections approach. It also urged young people and affiliate groups to participate peacefully in the political process.
Other political developments in the region have included the APC’s campaign activities in Enugu East and ward-level mobilisation involving Ugbakwa communities.
