The Anambra State Government has urged supporters of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) to reject Peter Obi and the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in the 2027 general election.
The government made the call in a post published on its official X account on Monday. The account is managed by the New Media office of Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo.
The government accused Obi, a former governor of Anambra State, of working against APGA since leaving the party. It also claimed that President Bola Tinubu had supported APGA during the period.
The latest development adds to the growing political differences between the Soludo administration and Obi ahead of the 2027 presidential election. The two sides have also recently disagreed over financial obligations linked to projects from Obi’s tenure.

Anambra Govt Accuses Obi of Working Against APGA
In a graphic titled “A Betrayal Alert for Ndi APGA,” the state government accused Obi of attempting to weaken the party that produced him as governor.
The government alleged that Obi had worked against APGA since leaving the party in 2014. It urged party supporters to remain loyal to APGA ahead of the 2027 elections.
“A betrayal alert for Ndi APGA. Since 2014, Obi has had one mission: to destroy the party that made him,” the government wrote.
It also alleged that Obi supported opposition forces against APGA while Tinubu stood with the party. The statement then urged APGA supporters to resist the NDC.
“Do not be deceived by a man who abandoned his own house. Anambra is APGA. Ndi APGA, defend your home, resist the NDC,” the government said.

Obi Governed Anambra Under APGA
Obi governed Anambra State under APGA from 2006 to 2014. His first period in office was interrupted by his impeachment in November 2006. He later returned to office after a court ruling and completed his tenure before leaving the party in 2014.
Obi formally left APGA in October 2014 and joined the Peoples Democratic Party. He later left the PDP in 2022 and contested the 2023 presidential election under the Labour Party.
He finished third in the 2023 presidential election behind Atiku Abubakar of the PDP and Bola Tinubu of the APC. Obi later left the Labour Party and moved through the ADC before becoming the NDC presidential candidate for 2027.

Soludo Has Declared Support for Tinubu
The Anambra government’s latest message also reflects Soludo’s previously stated position on the 2027 presidential election.
In 2025, Soludo publicly declared support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid. The governor said his position was influenced by his long-standing relationship with Tinubu and his assessment of the administration’s economic reforms.
Soludo has also called for progressive political parties to work together on issues affecting Nigeria. His position has placed his administration on a different political path from Obi ahead of 2027.
APGA has also been reported to have endorsed Tinubu as its preferred candidate for the 2027 presidential election.

Dispute Over Obi’s Record in Anambra
The latest exchange comes amid a separate dispute between Obi and the Anambra government over financial obligations.
The disagreement began after state officials said Anambra was still servicing loans linked to previous administrations. The claims included financial obligations associated with projects undertaken during Obi’s tenure.
Obi rejected the allegations and said he left office without outstanding debts owed by the state government. He also said his administration did not owe salaries, pensions or contractors when he handed over power.
The former governor further said his administration left N2.1 billion in ecological funds for the state. The Anambra government later challenged his account and released figures concerning external obligations it said were linked to his administration.

Anambra Govt Links APGA Defence to 2027
The state government has framed the latest political message as a call for APGA members to protect the party’s political base.
It argued that supporting Obi and the NDC would undermine APGA’s position in Anambra. The government therefore urged party members to remain committed to APGA during the approaching election cycle.
The message reflects the increasingly competitive political environment in Anambra ahead of the 2027 presidential election. It also shows the growing divide between supporters of Obi and the Soludo-led APGA administration.

Obi’s Camp Responds to Anambra Government
Obi’s media office has responded to the Anambra government’s latest attack. The Peter Obi Media Reach described the campaign against the former governor as a political distraction. Its spokesman, Idris Zekeri Jnr., urged Soludo to focus on governance and issues affecting residents.
Obi’s camp also accused the state government of focusing excessively on the former governor. It alleged that resources were being devoted to online attacks against Obi.
Those allegations were made by Obi’s media office and were not independently substantiated in the report. The Anambra government’s response to those specific claims was also not included in the report.

Political Rivalry Deepens Ahead of 2027
The exchange between the Anambra government and Obi comes as political activity increases ahead of the 2027 election.
Obi is seeking the presidency under the NDC, while Soludo remains governor of Anambra under APGA. Their opposing political positions have increasingly featured in public discussions across the state.
The disagreement over APGA is also connected to a broader debate about Obi’s political history in Anambra. The former governor rose to national prominence through the party before leaving it for the PDP in 2014.
The Anambra government now wants APGA supporters to treat the 2027 election as an opportunity to defend the party’s political influence.

Anambra Politics Takes Shape Ahead of 2027
The latest development shows that Anambra is likely to remain an important political battleground ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
The state government has openly backed APGA’s political position, while Obi’s NDC is seeking support for his presidential bid. Their competing positions are likely to remain part of political discussions in the state.
The government’s latest message did not present independent evidence establishing its allegation that Obi has sought to destroy APGA. That claim remains the position of the Anambra State Government.
Similarly, Obi’s camp has made counter-allegations against the Soludo administration. Those claims also remain attributed to the former governor’s media team.
