Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo has described the support of 33 state governors for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid as unprecedented in Nigeria’s democratic history. He said the development reflects a broad political consensus on economic reforms, national unity, security and shared prosperity.
Soludo, who leads the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), declared his party’s support for Tinubu’s second-term ambition. He spoke on Wednesday at the inauguration of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council in Abuja.
The governor said APGA supports the President because of the party’s commitment to national unity and economic progress. He argued that progressive political forces must work together to build a stronger Nigeria.
Soludo Highlights Support From 33 Governors
Soludo described the gathering of governors backing Tinubu as a significant moment in the country’s political history. According to him, Nigeria has never witnessed such a broad level of political and elite consensus around a sitting President’s re-election.
“To the best of my knowledge, there is no time in Nigeria’s history that there has been a greater consensus,” Soludo said. He added that the presence of about 33 governors demonstrated the scale of support for Tinubu.
The Anambra governor also defended APGA’s place within Nigeria’s progressive political movement. He noted that the party registered as a progressive platform in 2002, twelve years before the APC emerged.
Soludo maintained that discussions about progressivism in Nigeria should recognise APGA’s contribution. His comments came as political parties and prominent figures continued to position themselves ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Other political figures have also publicly expressed confidence in Tinubu’s chances. In a related report, Afegbua Predicts Tinubu Victory, Places Atiku Second and Obi Third.
APGA Backs Tinubu’s Economic Reform Programme
Soludo said APGA’s decision to support Tinubu was partly driven by the need to sustain economic reforms. He acknowledged the difficulties Nigerians face but argued that structural reforms remain necessary for long-term economic progress.
According to the governor, Nigeria has reached an unusually broad agreement among political and economic leaders about the direction of reform. He described Tinubu’s policy choices as difficult but necessary for the country’s future.
“The path that you have chosen—that you have had the courage to take—is a difficult, but necessary and required path,” Soludo said. He added that APGA was joining the President because of its belief in the reform programme.
The governor also urged progressive parties to unite behind a shared national vision. He argued that continuity would help Nigeria move beyond economic stability towards wider prosperity.
His position echoes other discussions about the Federal Government’s economic agenda. President Tinubu has previously said Nigerians could see lower transport fares from October 1, as reported in Tinubu Says Nigerians Will See Lower Transport Fares From October 1.
Governor Calls for Unity Among Progressive Forces
Soludo urged progressive political groups across Nigeria to put aside their differences and work together. He described the current political moment as an opportunity to build the country many Nigerians hope to see.
He said the country needed a united front to consolidate ongoing reforms and accelerate development. According to him, Tinubu’s second term could focus on moving from stability towards shared prosperity.
The governor described this next phase as “pragmatic progressivism.” He argued that Nigeria should strengthen policies that support economic transformation and distribute the benefits of growth more widely.
“Why change a winning team? If it is not broken, why fix it?” Soludo asked. He reaffirmed APGA’s willingness to remain a partner in Tinubu’s political and governance journey.
The call for political unity comes as parties prepare for the 2027 elections. Meanwhile, other opposition groups are also organising their campaigns and grassroots activities. Soludo Says Tinubu’s Second Term Could Accelerate Growth
Soludo expressed confidence that a second Tinubu administration could accelerate the country’s economic transformation. He said the next phase should focus on turning economic stability and reform into shared prosperity.
He urged Nigerians to remain committed to the reform process despite current economic challenges. He also described the 2027 election as an opportunity to consolidate the gains of the administration’s policies.
The governor’s endorsement adds to the growing political support for Tinubu’s re-election campaign. However, the ultimate outcome will depend on voters’ decisions during the 2027 presidential election.

Political Alignments Take Shape Ahead of 2027
Soludo’s declaration highlights the political alliances developing ahead of the next general elections. His support also signals cooperation between APGA and the APC at the national level.
The governor said APGA would remain involved in the governance process and support the journey towards Tinubu’s re-election. He maintained that progressive forces should seize the opportunity to advance a shared national agenda.
Meanwhile, political discussions around possible alliances and presidential contenders continue across the country. Some figures have focused on building support for Tinubu, while others are exploring alternative political platforms.
Former presidential candidate Peter Obi remains a central figure in discussions about the opposition. The NDC Presidential Campaign Council Plans to Give Obi and Kwankwaso a Say in Key Appointments report highlights developments involving another political platform.
Other reports have examined potential rivalries and emerging alliances. These include Utomi’s Warning Over Obi Accepting a Vice-Presidential Slot and Adebayo’s Call for Nigerian Youths to Take Politics Beyond Social Media.
The coming months are expected to bring further political engagements as parties strengthen their structures. Soludo’s endorsement has added another prominent voice to the debate over Tinubu’s second-term ambition.
