Mbah Approves Promotion, Conversion of Over 2000 Enugu Civil Servants
Civil servants in Enugu State have expressed excitement following the Mbah’s approval of promotion of Enugu civil servants. No fewer than 2,114 workers by Governor Peter Mbah, in what officials described as a major boost to morale within the state’s public service.
The approval, which takes immediate effect, covers workers who participated in the November and December 2025 promotion and conversion exercises conducted across various ministries, departments and agencies in the state.
It was gathered that the directive also includes the financial implications attached to the new ranks, ensuring that beneficiaries begin to enjoy their upgraded salaries and allowances without delay.
Chairman of the Civil Service Commission Speaks on the Approval of Promotion, Conversion of Over 2000 Enugu Civil Servants
Chairman of the Enugu State Civil Service Commission, Mr Robison Odo, disclosed the development on Tuesday in Enugu, noting that the decision had been widely welcomed by workers across different cadres.
Odo described the approval as timely, likening it to an Easter gift for civil servants who had long awaited the outcome of the exercise.
According to him, the beneficiaries cut across officers on Grade Levels 01 to 17 who successfully passed the promotion interviews conducted by the commission.
He said, “The Executive Governor recently approved the release of the promotion and conversion of 2,114 officers who participated in the 2025 exercise. The approval also takes immediate effect with the financial benefits attached.”
He assured that the commission had already commenced steps to ensure the seamless implementation of the governor’s directive, adding that all necessary administrative processes would be concluded promptly.
The commission chairman commended the Mbah administration for what he described as its consistent commitment to workers’ welfare, stressing that prompt payment of salaries, pensions and gratuities had become a defining feature of the current government.
He further noted that the state’s N80,000 minimum wage remained above the national benchmark, describing it as a clear indication of the administration’s worker-friendly disposition.
Odo added, “Workers are genuinely excited. This development will serve as a strong motivation for improved productivity, discipline and dedication to duty. We sincerely appreciate the governor for prioritising workers’ welfare even in the face of massive infrastructural development across the state.”
He pledged that civil servants would reciprocate the gesture by demonstrating greater commitment, innovation and efficiency in service delivery, in line with the administration’s development agenda.
Head of Service Commends the Governor
Also speaking, the Head of Service, Dr Godwin Anigbo, said the governor’s policies had continued to create an enabling environment for workers to embrace reforms and perform optimally.
Anigbo noted that the administration’s emphasis on innovation and capacity building had begun to transform the state’s public service, equipping workers with modern skills required to meet contemporary governance demands.
He said, “We are working closely with the Civil Service Commission to ensure that workers are adequately prepared to align with the government’s reform-driven agenda. The administration has introduced forward-looking initiatives that are repositioning the service for greater efficiency and productivity.”
The Head of Service further disclosed that the government had intensified efforts in training civil servants in digital competencies, a move he said was facilitating the transition from analogue systems to technology-driven operations.
According to him, the shift towards digitalisation is already improving workflow, enhancing transparency and boosting service delivery across MDAs.
Anigbo also lauded the governor’s approval for the establishment of a public service training institute, describing it as a strategic intervention aimed at strengthening institutional capacity within the civil service.
He maintained that the institute would provide continuous professional development for workers, thereby ensuring that the state’s workforce remains competitive and adaptable to evolving administrative challenges.
Despite the state’s heavy investment in infrastructure and other capital-intensive projects, Anigbo said the administration had maintained a delicate balance by prioritising workers’ welfare alongside development goals.
Findings indicated that the latest approval has further strengthened confidence among civil servants, many of whom expressed optimism that the reforms being implemented by the current administration would lead to a more efficient and result-oriented public service in the state.
