President Bola Tinubu has dismissed concerns about his health after returning to Nigeria from his extended working vacation in Europe.
Tinubu spoke with journalists on Tuesday after arriving in Lagos from Paris, France. He said there was nothing wrong with him and declared that he was healthy, sound and ready to resume work.
Tinubu Addresses Health Concerns
The President was responding to questions about rumours surrounding his health during his extended stay abroad. He said such rumours were part of political discussions but insisted that his return showed he was ready to continue his duties.
“Ready to kick, ready to walk. There’s nothing wrong,” Tinubu said. He added that he was “healthy, sound, and ready to go” after returning to Nigeria.
The comments came shortly after Tinubu arrived at the Presidential Wing of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos. His aircraft landed in Lagos on Tuesday evening after his four-week stay in Europe.

Tinubu Returns After Extended European Vacation
Tinubu left Nigeria on August 30 for what the Presidency described as a working vacation in Europe. He initially travelled to London before moving to Paris, where he held several engagements.
The Presidency later announced that Tinubu had extended his stay by a few days. It said he remained in contact with officials at home and continued directing government affairs while abroad.
His return was later rescheduled for Tuesday, September 29. The President eventually arrived in Lagos after completing about four weeks abroad.
The extended absence generated public debate, particularly over the length of his stay outside Nigeria. The discussion also included questions about the constitutional procedures surrounding presidential absence.

AAC Takes Tinubu and National Assembly to Court
The controversy over Tinubu’s extended vacation also led to legal action by the African Action Congress.
The party filed a suit at the Federal High Court in Abuja against Tinubu, the Attorney-General of the Federation, the Senate President, the Speaker of the House of Representatives and the National Assembly.
The AAC is asking the court to determine whether Tinubu was required to transmit a written declaration to the National Assembly before leaving Nigeria. The party also challenged the alleged failure of the National Assembly to pass a resolution authorising Vice President Kashim Shettima to act as President after the absence exceeded 21 days.
No date has been fixed for the hearing of the case. The court will therefore determine the issues raised by the party based on the legal arguments and evidence presented by the parties.
The development adds to the political discussion surrounding Tinubu’s return. It also comes as parties and political groups prepare for the 2027 general elections.

Presidency Says Tinubu Continued Working Abroad
The Presidency has maintained that Tinubu continued to direct the affairs of the country during his time in Europe.
According to the State House, the President remained in contact with officials in Nigeria. It also said he continued to handle government matters while away from the country.
During the trip, Tinubu spent about one week in London before travelling to Paris. He also met French President Emmanuel Macron and held engagements with business leaders during his stay in France.
Vice President Kashim Shettima represented Tinubu at some official events while the President was away. Other senior government officials also handled official engagements during the period.
The President’s return now brings his extended European vacation to an end. He is expected to continue official activities from Nigeria.

Tinubu Expected to Attend Independence Activities
Tinubu returned to Nigeria ahead of the country’s 66th Independence Anniversary on October 1.
The Presidency has indicated that the President will remain in Lagos for activities linked to the anniversary. His programme includes an Independence Day public lecture and a national broadcast to Nigerians.
The President is also expected to attend a production honouring the late Chief Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola at the National Theatre in Lagos. He is expected to return to Abuja after his Lagos engagements.
His return comes at a time when the government is facing several national debates. These include economic issues, political preparations and discussions about the country’s development.

Tinubu Says He Is Ready to Resume
Tinubu’s comments in Lagos directly addressed the health rumours that circulated during his absence. He said he was healthy and ready to continue working after returning from Europe.
The President’s statement represents his own account of his health. It does not amount to an independent medical assessment, and no such assessment was provided in the reports reviewed.
His return also shifts attention back to his domestic schedule. The President is expected to participate in Independence Day activities before continuing official engagements in Nigeria.
The development comes as political activity continues to build ahead of the 2027 elections. Recent reports have also focused on party preparations and debates involving the President and opposition figures.
