The Enugu State Police Command has ordered an investigation into an alleged shooting outside the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) secretariat in Enugu. The incident reportedly left a man with a suspected gunshot injury and damaged five parked vehicles.
Commissioner of Police Mamman Bitrus Giwa gave the directive following the incident on October 10, 2026, at about 2:30 p.m. The Command also confirmed that joint police and military operatives dispersed suspected NDC members following a disturbance at the entrance to Akanu Ibiam International Airport earlier that day.
According to a press release issued on October 11 by Police Public Relations Officer SP Daniel Ndukwe, the two incidents occurred at different locations in Enugu. The police said officers responded to both situations to restore order.

Police Investigate Shooting Outside NDC Secretariat
The police said unidentified armed hoodlums allegedly opened fire in front of the NDC secretariat at about 2:30 p.m. on October 10. A man repairing a vehicle parked along the road reportedly sustained a suspected gunshot injury during the incident.
The shooting also allegedly damaged the windscreens of five parked vehicles. Police operatives responded after receiving a distress report and moved to restore normalcy at the scene.
Officers subsequently rushed the injured man to a hospital, where he is receiving treatment. The police said he was in stable condition at the time of the announcement.

Joint Security Operatives Disperse NDC Members at Airport
In a separate incident, joint police and military operatives intervened at the entrance to Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu, at about 11:30 a.m. on October 10. The security personnel dispersed suspected NDC members who had gathered in what the police described as a disorderly manner.
Preliminary findings indicated that airport authorities restricted the party members from entering the airport in large numbers to receive their governorship candidate. The restriction reportedly triggered a misunderstanding among some party members.
According to the police, the disagreement escalated into a fight, prompting the intervention of joint security operatives. The Command said the officers acted to address the disturbance and restore order at the airport entrance.
The press release did not identify the governorship candidate or provide details of any arrests or injuries arising from the airport incident.
