Mbah Demonstrates Strong Commitment to Development- Asadu
Speaking on behalf of the council, its Chairman, Samuel Asadu, said the decision to back Mbah for a second term followed a careful assessment of his leadership style, developmental strides, and commitment to the welfare of the people of the state.
Asadu noted that the monarchs were particularly impressed by what he termed the governor’s “demonstrable love for Ndi Enugu” and his drive to reposition the state through strategic infrastructure and policy initiatives. He added that the endorsement was not only a reflection of confidence in the governor’s performance but also an indication that he could be considered for higher national responsibilities in the future.
“The council, under my leadership, has carefully considered the administration of Governor Peter Mbah and has come to the conclusion that his performance has been outstanding. His commitment to development and the welfare of our people is evident in the projects and reforms we are witnessing across the state,” Asadu said.
He further stressed that traditional rulers, as custodians of culture and grassroots governance, would continue to partner with the state government to safeguard public infrastructure, including smart schools, healthcare facilities, and other critical assets located within their communities.
Monarchs Highlights Key Infrastructure Projects
Also speaking, the Chairman of the Oji River Council of Traditional Rulers, Chima Achiekwelu, described the endorsement as unanimous and well-deserved, noting that it aligned with his long-standing support for the governor’s policies and programmes.
Achiekwelu highlighted several ongoing and completed projects under the current administration, including the revival and completion of previously abandoned initiatives such as the Niger Gas project, the International Conference Centre, and the Hotel Presidential. According to him, these projects have significantly boosted economic activities and restored public confidence in governance.
He also expressed optimism about the administration’s plan to execute 10 kilometres of road projects across all 260 political wards in the state, noting that such an initiative would bring development closer to rural communities and improve connectivity across the state.
“Our people are fully in support of Governor Mbah’s re-election. The level of infrastructure development and the completion of abandoned projects have never been seen in recent times. This is why we are confident in backing him for another term,” Achiekwelu added.
State Government Reacts, Promises Continued Partnership
Reacting to the endorsement, the Secretary to the State Government, Chidiebere Onyia, conveyed the governor’s appreciation to the traditional rulers for their show of support and confidence in his administration.
Onyia described the endorsement as a validation of the government’s performance and a clear indication that the administration’s campaign promises were being fulfilled. He assured the monarchs of the government’s continued commitment to collaboration and inclusive governance.
“This endorsement is a testament to the fact that the key components of the governor’s manifesto are being implemented effectively. The administration remains committed to working closely with traditional institutions to sustain development and ensure the well-being of all residents,” he said.
Grassroot Governance Strengthened as Mbah Boost Welfare Packages for Monarchs
In the same vein, the Commissioner for Chieftaincy Affairs, Charles Egumgbe, disclosed that the governor had recently approved the first executive meeting of the traditional rulers’ council, alongside an upward review of their monthly stipends.
Egumgbe described the approvals as a significant step towards strengthening the administrative capacity of traditional institutions and enhancing grassroots governance. He noted that such measures were difficult to achieve under previous administrations, adding that the current government had demonstrated a strong commitment to empowering traditional rulers.
Endorsements Build Momentum Ahead of 2027 Polls
Tuesday’s endorsement by the traditional rulers marks yet another show of support for Mbah by critical stakeholders ahead of the 2027 governorship election in Enugu State.
Over the weekend, a mega rally which culminated in a similar endorsement was organised by the Awkunawnu clan, drawn from Enugu South and Nkanu West. The event witnessed a large turnout of supporters who expressed confidence in the governor’s leadership and backed his re-election bid.
Observers say the growing wave of endorsements from key groups, including traditional institutions and grassroots communities, is gradually shaping the political landscape as the state inches closer to the next electoral cycle.
