Anambra Police Exhume Body Of Man Allegedly Killed By Cousin, Arrest Suspect
Operatives of the State Criminal Investigation Department of the Anambra State Police Command have arrested a 35-year-old man, Chukwudalu Ezeani, in connection with the alleged murder of his cousin, Chinedu Ezeani, whose remains have been exhumed after months of concealment.
The deceased, a 52-year-old man, had reportedly been declared missing about eight months ago, prompting initial concerns among relatives and members of the community before the case took a new turn following fresh intelligence.
The Command’s spokesman, Superintendent Tochukwu Ikenga, in a statement, Thursday, disclosed that the suspect allegedly committed the crime on August 1, 2025, at about 8:00 p.m.
Ikenga says the crime may have been committed at the victim’s residence in Afube Village, Amichi, Nnewi South Local Government Area of the state. according to him, preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect allegedly killed the victim and buried his body in a shallow grave within his compound in a bid to conceal the act.
“The suspect allegedly killed the deceased at his residence and buried the body in a shallow grave within his compound, concealing the crime for about eight months,” the statement read in part.
The police spokesperson explained that the matter was initially reported at the Amichi Police Station as a missing person case. However, detectives later revisited the case following credible intelligence, which led to a breakthrough in the investigation.
He noted that upon further interrogation, the suspect reportedly confessed to the crime and subsequently led operatives to the burial site within his compound.
“The case, which was initially reported as a missing person incident, was later revisited by detectives following credible intelligence, leading to the arrest of the suspect,” Ikenga said.
He added that the remains of the deceased had since been exhumed and deposited for necessary forensic examinations to aid ongoing investigations.
Ikenga further stated that the suspect would be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
The Anambra State Police Command reiterated its commitment to ensuring justice in the matter and urged members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
The command also assured residents that it would continue to intensify efforts aimed at combating crime and safeguarding lives and property across the state.
