2027: Sowore Pledges Increase in Wages, 24-Hour Electricity If Elected

Omoyele Sowore, presidential candidate of the African Action Congress, has unveiled major promises ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

The activist and publisher said his government would introduce a ₦500,000 monthly living minimum wage for Nigerian workers. He also promised 24-hour electricity and free education at every level.

Sowore outlined the proposals during an interview published by Independent on Sunday. He said the plans form part of the AAC’s agenda for the 2027 election.

The presidential hopeful also promised to build one million public mixed-income homes. In addition, he wants to reform tenancy laws and reduce the pressure of advance rent payments.

His proposals come as political parties prepare for the 2027 general elections. The contest is already drawing attention across Nigeria, with several politicians positioning themselves for the race.

Sowore said Nigerian workers deserve better pay under his proposed administration. He argued that current wages do not adequately reflect the rising cost of living.

According to him, the government should stop paying what he described as starvation wages. He also compared workers’ earnings with the large sums political officeholders receive.

The AAC candidate said his government would establish a ₦500,000 monthly living minimum wage. He presented the proposal as part of a broader plan to reduce poverty and inequality.

Sowore said Nigeria has enough wealth to improve citizens’ lives. However, he blamed corruption, poor governance and an economic system that favours a small elite.

His position adds another economic promise to the growing 2027 political debate. Other political figures have also started presenting their plans for Nigerian workers and households.

AAC promises 24-hour electricity

Electricity also featured prominently in Sowore’s campaign agenda. He promised to deliver 24-hour electricity across the country if elected president.

Sowore backs a leftist government
