The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has arrested approximately 300 people during a security operation targeting suspected criminal hideouts across the territory.
The operation took place on Saturday, September 19, 2026. Officers raided identified crime hotspots, shanties and uncompleted buildings as part of efforts to prevent crime and improve public safety.
The command disclosed the development in a statement issued at its headquarters in Abuja. Police Public Relations Officer Josephine Adeh released the statement, which the command also shared on its X account on Sunday.
The arrests follow ongoing efforts by the police to disrupt criminal activities and protect residents across the FCT.
Police Recover Knives, Toy Gun and Illicit Drugs
According to the police, officers searched several locations suspected of serving as criminal hideouts. The operation resulted in the arrest of approximately 300 people for screening and profiling.
The police also recovered various items during the raids. These included knives, a toy gun, cannabis and other illicit drugs.
The command said officers were screening the suspects to establish whether they had committed any offences. It added that authorities would charge anyone found culpable to court in line with the law.
However, police said they would release individuals who had no case to answer after completing the screening process.
